Big up Buff Body Care

Say hello to this luxe, eco body care brand, fresh from the shores of Devon. We're totally bigging up Buff.

Buff Bodycare

The Muddy radar was buzzing about all over the place when I discovered this rather lovely brand at a pop-up market at Dartington’s Webbers Yard, recently. Despite being rammed to the rafters with gorgeous things, it was the founder of Buff Natural Body Care and all-round good egg, Jo who lured me over like the Beauty Whisperer; and my skincare regime/wellbeing/life in general has been that little bit better, ever since.

Was it the simple and pretty packaging that caught my eye? Quite possibly, since I’m a bit of a marketer’s dream when I want to be. But isn’t it nice, in all those lovely nautical shades (Farrow & Ball take note), amber glass and recycled aluminium lids (pretty and kind to the planet).

Maybe it was the aroma wafting in my direction? I can’t remember which of the five scents got me, but the intoxicating blends in the range of candles, massage and body oils, and body scrubs, promise to awaken, revive and restore, feeding those senses morning to night.

Whatever hooked me, I’m glad because then I got to know the story behind this new luxe brand fresh from the shores of Devon. Buff is the creation of aromatherapist, massage therapist and and mum, Jo and the realisation of her dream to launch a body care brand that’s 100% natural, hand made and eco-friendly, without skimping on the luxe bit.

The range is made using pure plants and minerals, with wellness benefits for the body and mind. So whether you spark up a candle, slather the oil on after your bath, or buff up with a body scrub, you’ll feel the benefits. Plus, since it was the sea that inspired the range in the first place, Jo has a Silver Corporate Membership with the Marine Conservation Society and donates 2% of all her profits to them.

But is it actually any good? Well, yes, really good, since you asked. I was totally stuck on which scent to go for: ‘Up‘ is the invigorating one, with a blend of lemon eucalyptus, spearmint, rosemary and cedarwood, designed to uplift you (a requirement for January); ‘Body‘ is good for post-workout apparently (totally me these days *cough*), with cyprus, juniper berry, lavender and cedarwood; ‘Naked‘ is the one for sexy time (*tumbleweed*), but smells divine, with clary sage, rosewood, sandalwood and ylang ylang; and ‘Nuit‘ is the winter warmer, made from bergamot, ginger, palma rosa, patchouli and sandalwood.

See my dilemma? In the end, it was ‘Mama‘; the pampering one of the pack wot one in, with a delicate blend of mandarin, lavender and frankincense. It also happens to be safe for mums-to-be and breast-feeders, not that I’m in either of those categories.

Buff Bodycare

I’ve been road testing the candle, the body oil and the scrub and, honestly?  So far I’m completely sold, particularly on the body scrub. Having worked my way through several brands this past year, I’m over the moon to find one that actually makes a difference to how smooth my skin feels.  First, you really feel as though you’re giving yourself a decent scrub and then you’re left with the oils working their magic. The candle looks and smells pretty in the bedroom and I’m saving the massage oil for a special occasion (don’t get ideas if you’re reading this, Mr Muddy).

So that’s why I’m singing the praises of this very cool brand and proud to big up Buff. You can find it in a select number of stores in Devon and Somerset, or online, but you can also, excitingly, indulge in a selection of Buff treatments by Jo herself at one of our fave salons, Blush Hair & Beauty in Ashburton.  Go forth and enjoy, Muddies!
