The Cheese Shed
Muddy says: Love cheese, but feeling bored by the same old blocks at the supermarket deli counter? You’re guaranteed to broaden your cheese-tasting horizons at this super online shop, based out of Bovey Tracey, specialising in some seriously tasty Westcountry artisan cheeses.
You’re not a bonafide cheese-fiend if you haven’t yet discovered The Cheese Shed. This incredible, award-winning online store, has humble roots in a little blue shed overlooking Dartmoor, and has been beating the drum for Westcountry artisan cheeses – of which there are so many amazing varieties, it turns out – since 2006. If the prestigious Observer Food Monthly Awards champions this fab independent business, then we definitely do, too.
Whether you’re gift-buying, stocking up for a festive occasion, looking for a savoury alternative to the traditional *wedding cake, or just love to chomp on a decent hunk of cheese, you’ll find all boxes ticked here. There’s a distinctly bespoke feel about The Cheese Shed products, from hampers to off-the-peg ideas for catering at corporate events (beats soggy sandwiches and crisps, any day) and not forgetting the great selection of accompaniments, from chutneys, to charcuterie.
*I warn you, the online cake-builder tool is addictive fun, you’ll see what I mean.
Whoever is on the receiving end of your shopping endeavours will find the cheeses a fun talking point. Nearly everything available is sought out from dairies that are off the beaten track and many come from the smallest makers that you won’t find anywhere else. Expect to be introduced to unusual hard, creamy and crumbly cheeses, along with the Westcountry alternative to the more mainstream varieties. I recently received my first little bespoke box in the post and I’ve basically died and gone to cheese heaven.
